YGL Mission and Purpose
Young Government Leaders (YGL) is professional organization of young men and women employed by the Federal Government. Our mission is to educate, inspire, and transform the current and future leaders of the Federal government. Our purpose is to serve as a coordinated voice for the current and future generations of young government leaders by providing a community of leadership through professional development activities, networking opportunities, social events and seminars.
YGL History
Founded in 2003, YGL has developed an expansive young federal network in just a few years. Our membership consists of over 1000 young feds at more than 30 different U.S. departments and agencies. YGL has supported a number of professional development and social networking events over the last few years, including professional development panels, such as "Growing Tomorrow’s Government Leaders" (2005), “Hit the Ground Running: Tips for Success for New Federal Employees” (2006), and "Strategies for First-line Supervisors" (2006). YGL has also participated in the 2005 and 2006 Excellence in Government Conference in Washington, DC.
Members have been featured in such publications as Federal Computer Weekly, The Public Manager journal, WashingtonPost.com as well as on Federal News Radio. YGL has also recently established a weekly blog with youngfeds.org, an on-line community focused on issues important to Gen X and Y feds. YGL continues to expand its role as a catalyst for leadership development including coordinating professional networking events, community outreach, attending local cultural and artistic events, and participating in athletic leagues. In addition to the Washington DC Chapter, YGL has Chapters in Denver CO, Dallas TX, Harrisburg, PA, and Bethesda, MD with plans to establish additional chapters around the country in 2008.
