YGL DC Chapter

  • Keyon Smith - President

Keyon was appointed President of YGL’s DC Chapter in November 2010.  He foresees the DC Chapter achieving unprecedented success because as he puts it, “We will adhere to the age old adage that quality trumps quantity [with respect to hosting events].”

Keyon has held his current role of Federal Project Officer for the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) - a division of the Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) – since 2009.  Keyon’s foray into public service was greatly influenced by the venerable Mahatma Gandhi’s famous quote: “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” Away from the office, he enjoys traveling, playing basketball, and going to the movies.

  • Marcus Soriano - Road Show Coordinator

  • Kelli Johnson
Kelli C. Johnson hails from Baltimore, Maryland and is a Grants Management Specialist for the Department of Homeland Security/FEMA under the Grants Administration and Assistance Directorate.
She graduated from Delaware State University with a BA in Political Science and a minor in Philosophy. Upon graduating from Delaware State she worked in a law office in downtown Baltimore. While she was learning the in's and outs of the legal system in the areas of personal injury, social security, workers compensation and automobile accidents, she still had a strong desire to be apart of the federal government. After continuously applying for jobs in the federal government, to no avail she did not receive positive call backs. The heavens didn't open up until she received an offer to work as a contractor on a project at FEMA that was only to last 8 months, with Sam, Inc., a small subcontractor of Booz Allen Hamilton Consulting. During her tenure at Sam, Inc. She worked at FEMA as a contract specialist, Crystal City and the Pentagon as an administrative liaison for the Navy. It wasn't until about a year after she applied for her current position at FEMA, that she received a call back. She was hired in 2009 and has held her position ever since. She received her Masters of Arts in Government with a concentration in Law & Justice from Johns Hopkins University in 2010. Her plans are to become an attorney for the federal government. Her favorite quote is, "the only thing I should be scared of is God and the girl in the mirror." Lasagna is her worst enemy.

  • Cristen Cole - Membership and Services

In Spring 2011, Cristen joined YGL with a focus in Membership.  During her undergraduate career at The Pennsylvania State University, Cristen spent much of her time as a board member for the Penn State Lion Scouts where one of her success's lied in helping to revamp the recruitment process.  She spent time as a Communication Coordinator with duties including the creation of newsletters and serving as the liaison for communication between the board and the organization's members.  Cristen now aspires to use her background in helping to make membership in YGL rewarding and worthwhile for all.  An organization such as YGL plays a crucial part in communicating information to its members, so that each can be successful and make the government an even better place to work!

Cristen works for the General Services Administration (GSA) - Federal Acquisition Service (FAS) as a Contract Specialist.  In her free time, she enjoys time with her family on the water of Deep Creek Lake.  In light of her cheerful and positive attitude, one of Cristen's favorite quotes is by E.E. Cummings - "The most wasted of all days is one without laughter."
